About

ABOUT

Welcome to RoboTech 25, the premier GT IEEE robotics hackathon. Our goal for RoboTech is to encourage engineers of different backgrounds to collaborate, innovate, and solve real-world problems. Our theme for this year is automation and locomotion. We hope that you will bring your creative and intellectual energy to create amazing robots! Looking forward to your creations! And as always, have fun!

Why RoboTech?

RoboTech is Georgia Tech's one and only robotics hackathon. Rather than a traditional hackathon, RoboTech specifically encourages teams to focus on hardware and mechanical design to tackle real-world problems. More than just software development, we want participants to learn about the design process for building a robot. Furthermore, we hope that participants will look to keep the theme of the hackathon in mind as well - the focus of the hackathon this year is automation and locomotion, so atonomous movement, designs involving wheels or movement of some sort, are encouraged.

AMAZON ROBOTICS TRACK

Amazon is looking for innovative ways to manipulate cases (cardboard boxes) in its expanding Distribution Center (DC) network. Unlike our typical Fulfillment Centers, where items are stored individually, DCs store big boxes on tall shelves. Hackers, we are looking to you to demonstrate innovative approaches to 1) identifying cases, 2) retrieving cases from shelves or 3) moving a cases from point A to B (choose one of these options!) The solution could be fully automated, or a human/machine-based solution where a human is augmented.

FAQs

Who can register? Any student enrolled at Georgia Tech who is 18 and older. If there are any discrepancies, please reach out to us via email.

Where and when is the hackathon held? In the Klaus Atrium from March 29th to March 31st

What is a robotics hackathon? A robotics hackathon, in comparison to other hackathons, revolves around designing, building, and programming a robot related to the theme of the hackathon. You are free to create any sort of design and collaborate with your team members to do anything that you feel is innovative, impactful, and fun!

Will materials be provided? We will provide basic materials, as listed on the website. Furthermore, any supplies that can be used from the makerspaces will be available, however, the rules for borrowing material from each of the respective makerspaces will still apply.

Can I buy my own materials? Will I be reimbursed? Yes! If you have a project idea that involves using other materials, you are free to purchase and use your own set of materials.

What if I don't have a team before the event starts? There will always be others who join the hackathon without a team, so you will be able to form teams at the event. Additionally, there will be a discord server that is used to communicate throughout the event, and you can find teammates via the "Group Formation" channel.

Is the event beginner friendly? Yes! Anyone is free to submit to the general track. While there is no separate submission for beginner hacks, if we feel that majority of participants are beginners, we will take that into consideration when we conduct judging!

How will applicants be selected? Applicants will be selected based on interest, passion, and willingness to learn.

How many people per team? We encourage having teams of 4 people!

Is the event free? Yes, the event is free. Food will also be provided. The only time potential cost can be incurred is if you choose to purchase any additional materials on your own.

Are we required to submit to the sponsored challenge? No! The sponsor challenge is designed to give teams an idea of a problem that they can tackle, and if they want to try to solve the proposed problem, they can opt to do so!

What events besides the hacking itself will happen? We plan to have guest speakers, talks with sponsors, game nights, and more!
